Sumitra Nair at Oxford Internet Institute Summer Doctoral Program

This year, the CDDC along with several other groups at Virginia Tech sponsored Science and Technology Studies Doctoral Student Sumitra Nair at the OII SDP. Here is what she had to say about the experience:

I am extremely grateful to the Center for Digital Discourse and Culture for supporting my stint at the Oxford Internet Institute's Summer Doctoral Programme 2010. My cohort consisted of a transdiciplinary mix of students from backgrounds including communications studies, information systems, culture studies, literature, science and technology studies, law and business. It's an extraordinary environment of give-and-take where one presents, hears from, and contributes to not only in-progress student dissertations, but also in-progress works of leading forces like Nigel Shadbolt, Lisa Nakamura, Sonia Livingstone and Jonathan Zittrain who double up as tutors and visitors. From this wonderful two (luckily sunny) weeks at Oxford, I bring back a wealth of methodological and content resources, a whole new network of future collaborators, directions from the field's visionaries, and fun times on a truly beautiful campus.
Here's a string of 30-second introductions of this year's cohort
