      There are many important women's organizations in Moldova:

      1. The Gender in Development Project (GID) is dedicated to assisting women in Moldova. It holds seminars on women in business, gender roles, leadership and violence.       7. The Women's Organization from Moldova (WOM) "Civic Initiative" is an NGO which started in 1996. WOM's goals are to promote democratic values through involving women in the process of democratizing society and to uphold and stimulate women's civic initiative. They offer seminars, training and workshops, provide material and moral support for vulnerable women and children, collaborate with educational institutions to change gender stereotypes and to promote gender equality, and organize sports, music, and literature clubs for women and children in different regions of Moldova.       Another important women's organizations is the Network Women's Program -- Soros Foundation Moldova, which works to improve communication between women throughout the world. The Women's Program, in the framework of Soros Foundation Moldova, was initiated in 1998, having the primary aim of solving many women's problems. The main spheres of activity are: women's health, women's friendly response to violence against women, trafficking in women, women and mass media, and experience exchange between NGOs active on women's problems from Moldova and abroad. For the moment here in Moldova there are 35 registered NGOs active on women's problems. Recently the National Women's Council and National Women's Forum were inaugurated. In 1998 the Network Women's Program did some very important things, including renovating the Crisis Centre from Chisinau and initiating another one in Balti. In the framework of the Network Women's Program, they have a Women's Journalist Club, titled "Zece Plus" (Ten Plus) and they are going to publish a magazine about the club's activity. Also in the program's framework the Information and Documentation Center for Women was inaugurated.
