AT 2 P.M.

After five days of fog, a band plays Strauss waltzes,
a barrelchested baritone sings "The Sound of Music,"
children tumble down embankments screaming,
young and old tan together in the afternoon sun.

No police in sight, no talk of the war,
just ice cream, Cracker Jacks, Kool Aid--

    A traditional American Sunday,
                                                 only braless.
