This is your brain

Present
My vision came to me during the third semester of my senior year. After doing several huge bong hits of Guatemalan hash, I was flat on my back and unresponsive to spoken commands. Just as I was about to pass out completely, I felt an overwhelming sensation of presence -- as if there were someone else, not simply in the room, but inside my head. And though this presence never spoke to me in words, I understood what It was doing. It was just looking in on me. It wasn't especially concerned, just checking, you see, so I'd know It was still around.

I spent the next 23 years systematically abusing psychoactive drugs.
