Hobble Through My Library
A look inside

You shrug and toss the artificial leg onto the deck, where it morphs for a while and eventually becomes a venerable old book richly bound in genuine Corinthian leather. You boot it over toward the hold, which is nearly full of venerable old books richly bound, etc.

When you snagged the first dozen of these things, you actually looked inside them. The pages were densely printed with unreadable insect type. Under 3x magnification the text proved to be an interminable table of map coordinates. When you mentioned this to Cap'n Hattie, she only scowled in a way that made your fillings ache.
Every volume you pull from the waves has the same title: The Book of the Everlasting Book.
