My paintings now are more surreal. I tell people that's because reality is too ugly to paint but that's not the truth. A blueberry, for example, is perfect.

It's because I've lost my hold on reality. Time has been sliding around between present and past, past and future. Things happen that I recall having happened before. And things that I'm looking forward to, such as the gallery opening of my first one-person show, already were.

I don't understand it.
