Happy motoring
They got into the car in Dallas at the crack of dawn Friday, directly after Bent picked up the keys from the mission people. It was a big silver Ford like a state car. The mileage was just over 32,000, which Gina doubted. The guy who owned it must have liked drugstore cologne, but you didn't notice after a while. It would get them where they were going.

Bent would take the first shift, from here to Little Rock. They drove up I-30 into the summer sunrise. It wasn't really hot yet, so they tried rolling the windows down, only the windshield got fogged. Bent sat up straight with his hands at ten and two just like in driver's ed. Gina started to laugh. It was so much like when they were kids starting off on vacation with the folks.
