Drivers
The program

Shadows
They stayed on the program all the way to Ohio, driving their stages and catching naps in the back, stopping only for food and gas. The objective was to cover ground fast, which they were. Gina kept telling herself this was a big old family car and they were a happy little family on their way to the big old city.

But she couldn't keep it up. She lay in the back while Bent drove but couldn't put down the pressure inside her. She looked at the dull sky and watched the shadows pass, staring at Bent's shoulders and the back of his neck. She thought how much she loved him and what that meant. For some women love meant husbands and babies and houses and the whole long haul. But Gina and Bent were different.
